Team WRT joins the ‘Start To Race’ TV show on VRT 1 and VRT Max

Bierset, 15 October 2026 – Team WRT, the largest and most successful Belgian racing team, is a proud partner of the TV program ‘Start To Race’, airing on VRT 1 and VRT Max starting 2 November 2026. In this eight-episode series, twelve candidates with no prior racing experience are trained to become race car drivers over the course of four months. VRT has chosen WRT to provide structural, strategic, and operational advice and resources, ensuring the candidates are optimally prepared when they reach the starting line.

Can anyone learn to race in just four months? That is the challenge facing the twelve participants in ‘Start To Race’, VRT’s brand-new TV program. Kathleen Schurmans, co-CEO of W Racing Team, is proud to be part of this unique adventure: “We are delighted to see motorsport take center stage in a TV program. Unlike football or cycling, motorsport is not widely known among many Belgians, and only true fans realise just how successful we at WRT are in this field. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to help transform twelve ordinary people into race car drivers, and to show the public what it takes to achieve that.”

The program is hosted by TV personality Jan Van Looveren and guided by professional race car driver and former WRT driver Sam Dejonghe. Kurt Mollekens, WRT’s GT program director and a former WRT driver who won the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps twice, is clear: “The program immerses participants in the demanding world of motorsport. As a viewer, you feel almost as if you’re behind the wheel yourself, experiencing the contestants’ fear, pain and challenges firsthand. While the show is designed to entertain, those who take our advice seriously give themselves the best chance of succeeding. Those who don’t... well, you’ll have to watch and see for yourself.”

Vincent Vosse, co-CEO of WRT and accustomed to performing at the highest level of international motorsport, with over 75 titles in less than twenty years - knows that a career as a racing driver requires immense sacrifices and effort: "The TV series shows that driving fast is great, but that other skills are just as important: teamwork, dedication, and a constant drive for improvement lie at the heart of every racing team. That is why WRT provides expertise, racing equipment, operational support, and mental coaching to the candidates. We know they need it!"

Kathleen Schurmans, who heads WRT alongside Vincent Vosse, fully shares his vision: “Start to Race offers a unique insight into the reality of motorsport, where success is always the result of a collective effort. Although the drivers are the visible face of the competition, every achievement rests on the unwavering drive, expertise, and commitment of an entire team. That philosophy has formed the foundation of WRT since its inception and is perfectly embodied in the motto: We aRe a Team.”

Start to Race is een productie van VRT Studio's, Being en Brightside Productions. Gerealiseerd met de steun van de Tax Shelter-maatregel van de Belgische wetgever via Flanders Tax Shelter.
