BELGIAN TEAM WRT TAKES SECOND PLACE OVERALL & CLASS VICTORY WITH BELGIAN DRIVER MATISSE LISMONT IN MAGNY-COURS.
A superb performance from young Belgian driver Matisse Lismont (21) and his Argentinian teammate Ignacio Montenegro (21) this weekend at Magny-Cours, in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, where the pair took a double class victory and a second place overall in Race 2 out of 44 cars.
The young duo were in control all weekend. Saturday brought the #30's third Sprint win of the season, led from the front after starting second on the grid and Sunday told much the same story, with a fourth win never far away. In the second one-hour race of the event on Sunday, Montenegro was running 14th overall (first in class) at the mid-race pit stop, when a perfectly executed stop from the mechanics and a lightning-fast driver change,send the #30 back out in an incredible second place overall. All that was left for Lismont was to defend the position against the Pro cars chasing him down, which he did, crossing the line as the best-placed BMW on track.
It was a team effort in every sense: the right call from the race engineer to undercut** the field, a lightning pit stop from the mechanics, and strong, committed stints from both drivers. Everyone did their job to perfection, and the result is an even bigger lead for the duo in the Silver Cup championship, across Sprint, Endurance and Combined.
Matisse Lismont: "I don't really have the words right now. I'm just really emotional. That pit stop in race two was fantastic, and I honestly did the best stint of my life so far.
