BELGIAN TEAM WRT ADDS A NEW TITLE TO ITS RECORD
Team WRT, based in Grace-Hollogne, rounded off a demanding stretch of eight races in six weeks by securing an additional European crown, the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Overall Teams' title, in Barcelona. The team's twelfth Sprint Cup crown in just 14 seasons of competing in the SRO Motorsports championship.
"I am delighted and proud of the team," said Vincent Vosse, founder and co-CEO of Team WRT."The Sprint Cup is a championship that is particularly close to our hearts. In our 14 participations, we have now won the title for the twelfth time. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement."
The Overall Teams' title was very much a collective effort, built throughout the season by all three of the team's Pro crews: the #31 BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Temse-based driver Amaury Cordeel and his South African teammate Jordan Pepper, the #32 of Aubel-based Charles Weerts and fellow South African Kelvin van der Linde, and the #46 of nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi and German driver Max Hesse. Together, they scored crucial points in every round of the season, building on an already perfect campaign from the young Silver Cup pairing of Leuven-based Matisse Lismont and his Argentinian teammate Ignacio Montenegro, who had already claimed every individual title on offer in the Silver class.
Adding to the celebrations, the team's mechanics once again won the Pit Stop Challenge, a competition between the championship’s teams rewarding their performance in the pit lane, their tenth win in 13 editions. "Winning the Pit Stop Challenge is also something very special," Vosse added. "Bravo to all the mechanics for their great work! They really deliver something extraordinary. We saw in Barcelona how important pit stops are for making up positions. This is how you can sometimes win a race!"
These latest successes bring Team WRT's overall title tally to 79, with two more championships still within reach before the season ends: the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, to be decided in Portimão on Saturday 17 October, and the FIA World Endurance Championship, whose penultimate round takes place in Barcelona that same weekend, ahead of the season finale in Monza on 8 November.
